Columbia Social Sciences Research Training Workshop (Beijing)

On February 7th - 9th, Columbia University Global Centers | Beijing hosted Columbia Social Sciences Research Training Workshop (Beijing). This 3-day workshop, jointly initiated by Columbia University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics(INCITE), Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, and Innovation and Challenge Projects for Teenagers (ICProjects), is specially designed for highly motivated Chinese high school students interested in the study of social sciences (economics, sociology, political sciences, psychology, etc.)On February 7th - 9th, Columbia University Global Centers | Beijing hosted Columbia Social Sciences Research Training Workshop (Beijng). This 3-day workshop, jointly initiated by Columbia University’s Interdisciplinary Center for Innovative Theory and Empirics(INCITE), Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, and Innovation and Challenge Projects for Teenagers (ICProjects), is specially designed for highly motivated Chinese high school students interested in the study of social sciences (economics, sociology, political sciences, psychology, etc.)

Since 2014, Columbia Social Sciences Research Training Workshop has successfully trained hundreds of high school across China. In 2017, 100 students from Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, etc are invited to participate in workshop (Beijing and Suzhou) based on their research paper submitted in the qualifying round.

Faculty members from INCITE introduced Field Experiment research method in the workshop. Participating students used this research method to complete their own research focusing on “Social Norm” with guidance from INCITE faculty.

“I definitely learned a lot from this workshop.” Lingrui Xu, a participating student from Shanghai said, “It is not only provides me an opportunity to closely work with Columbia scholars, but also encourages me to explore my interest in social sciences.”

Columbia Social Sciences Research Training Workshop is one of a series of social sciences programs aimed to train future social scientists. A Summer High School Student Social Research Program will be host in Columbia University campus in July and August.
