New Columbian Orientation and Welcome Reception
Partnering with Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CUCSSA) and the Columbia Alumni Association of Beijing, Beijing Center held orientation sessions for newly-admitted students from China each year, to help them better prepare for their arrival at Columbia, to give updated on campus news, and give a quick primer on NYC and the area around campus. Discussion sessions also provide opportunities for them to communication with their senior in the same program and learn more about the study information.
On July 9,2016, the Beijing Center co-hosted an orientation and welcome reception for newly-enrolled students in partnership with the Columbia University Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CUCSSA) and the Columbia Alumni Association of Beijing. CUCSSA representatives advised the new students on how to prepare for their arrival at Columbia, updated on campus news, and gave a quick primer on NYC and the area around campus. Some senior alumni also shared their insights on how to make the most out of life at Columbia, and the new students later met in groups with alumni mentors for in-depth discussions. One student remarked, “I am very grateful to you for organizing this event. The small group discussions with our alumni mentors helped answer many questions. And I was also able to make a lot of friends.”
