Beijing Center Exhibits Photos by Columbia Undergraduates

May 03, 2013

The exhibit “Environment and Cities: Undergraduate Photographs of East & Southeast Asia” is on display at Columbia Global Center | East Asia through December of 2013. It marks the second year for the center to host the Beijing section of the exhibit, which is sponsored by Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI), Columbia University Photography Society, and Office of Global Programs.

The theme this year, “Environment and Cities”, is tied to the inaugural 2012 Global Scholars Summer Workshop for undergraduates, a flagship program between WEAI and the Center. Featuring architecture, traditional culture, folk arts and nature, the photographs seek to demonstrate the relationship between modernity and environment in East and Southeast Asia.

The exhibition brings together twenty-five photographs by students from Columbia’s four undergraduate schools: Columbia College, Barnard College, the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the School of General Studies. Whether in struggle and competition or in elegant integration, the attitudes and interactions of people with their surrounding environments are in focus through these images.
