Columbia Hosts Summit for Global Centers Directors

September 18, 2014

During this third annual directors' summit, the directors of the eight Columbia Global Centers met with partners and colleagues from across campus.

The gathering provided opportunities for center directors to meet with key campus constituents and offices, including University President Lee C. Bollinger, faculty, deans and other leaders at Columbia College, Teachers College, Barnard College, and numerous other schools on campus. In other meetings, directors and staff discussed a variety of other internal and external matters related to the administration and communications of programming.

The two featured public events included a World Leaders Forum discussion with students and a Faculty Forum. Both sessions included presentations on how the centers have facilitated the efforts campus stakeholders at our global sites—the former primarily for students visiting the centers, and the latter focusing on faculty conducting research within our regions.

Columbia Global Centers hosted a forum for faculty on Sept. 10, 2014, to showcase some of the research it is facilitating at its eight centers around the world. Provost John Coatsworth introduced the panel moderated by Professor Safwan M. Masri, executive vice president for Global Centers and Global Development. The panel featured professors Kathleen Pike, Don J. Melnick and Zainab Bahrani, who made presentations on the research they are conducting around the world and how the centers are enabling and helping their work. A question and answer session followed their presentations.
