Development initiatives around sharing of natural resources such as water have idealized collective interest, community action and governance as guiding principles.  Yet the techniques and strategies for systematic and long-term community action remain under-researched.

Dr. Alfredo’s case study focuses on drinking water treatment facilities in some rural areas of Maharashtra. These are installed by companies under a government contract and subsequently handed over to village-level elected bodies or Gram Panchayats for operation and maintenance, as well as further planning and implementation.

Her lecture throws light on theoretical frameworks for cooperative behavior, drivers for community action, and ways to achieve actionable policy.  These challenges of collective action bear resonance with the management of other sectors such as education, healthcare, and sanitation as well.

Dr. Alfredo will present her research findings and share her framework for potential long-term research to seek partnerships and collaboration.
