Journalism in Chile

Columbia Global Centers | Latin America (Santiago)

The Graduate School of Journalism is pleased to be associated with the Columbia Global Center | Latin America, which offers it the opportunity to enhance its existing activities in Chile and throughout Latin America. For example, the Journalism School administers the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes, the oldest international prizes in journalism, which annually honor great reporting in the region. Several faculty, led by Cabot Professor of Journalism John Dinges, who has written extensively about Chile, as well as Joshua Friedman, Mirta Ojito and Edward Schumacher-Matos, have extensive knowledge and first-hand experience in Latin America. The Journalism School hopes to use the auspices of the Global Center to enhance professional standards in Chile and other countries, encourage and support press freedoms, and create events that will stimulate thoughtful public discussion of journalism and media.
