Murugi Ndirangu - New Nairobi Center Director

January 04, 2017

We are pleased to announce that Murugi Ndirangu will be joining Columbia Global Centers | Nairobi as Director.

Murugi will transition to the Nairobi Center from her current role as associate professor of nutrition and health care management at Appalachian State University, where she conducted research on the health of vulnerable populations and the efficacy of public health nutrition interventions in domestic and international settings. In this role, Murugi was also East African Coordinator for the African Nutritional Sciences Research Consortium. She holds a PhD in nutrition and food systems from the University of Southern Mississippi, and an MA in Psychology and a BA in Education, both from Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya.

Murugi's appointment is the culmination of a rigorous search process that commenced in May. A number of faculty members, including members of the Faculty Steering Committee for the Nairobi Center, provided invaluable assistance in the process.

Our appointment of a new director for the Nairobi Center comes at a time when we are completing our move to a new facility that will expand our capacity for events, partnerships, and the opportunity to showcase the Global Centers' work in Nairobi and around the world. With this reinvigorated presence, and a dedicated team, we will be better able to work with our partners and local communities in Kenya and East Africa to best deliver on the emerging interests of our faculty and students, and the pressing needs of local and, through our existing network, global communities.

We all look forward to welcoming Murugi on board, and to renewing and strengthening our deep engagement in East Africa.
