Reading Around the World - World Writers' Festival Opening Night

Center Director Paul LeClerc welcomed guests and led off the opening night event at the World Writers' Festival, "Reading Around the World" at the Irish Cultural Center in the Latin Quarter on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013.

We celebrate the inaugural Festival des Écrivains du Monde, with an international reading under the stars. You’ll be transported to Nigeria with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Half of a Yellow Sun), China with Ma Jian (The Noodle Maker), Israel with that country’s most celebrated author David Grossman (To The End of the Land), Turkey with Elif Shafak (The Bastard of Istanbul), Egypt with novelist and social commentator, Ahdaf Soueif (The Map of Love), before heading to Ireland with Booker Prize winner John Banville (The Sea), and to a place completely foreign to most of us — the world of living under police protection with Salman Rushdie (Joseph Anton).
