Translation in Brazil - Transcending boundaries

The panel Translation in Brazil - Transcending boundaries celebrates the launch of the book Word for Word, a project on text translation of authorial works from students of the Columbia School of the Arts and the Instituto Vera Cruz.

 

Instituto Silo Cultural will host the event in honor of Ruth Guimarães, Brazilian writer and translator. Joaquim Maria Botelho, Ruth Guimarães’ son and previous director of the União Brasileira de Escritores will speak on the challenges and peculiarities of translation in Brazil, followed by a debate with Alicia Meier, translator and coordinator of Word for Word at Columbia University, and Roberto Taddei, author and director at Instituto Vera Cruz Creative Writing Program.

 

In addition, we will have 2 students (one Brazilian and one American) to talk about their experiences and Professor Diamela Eltit of New York University, partner institutions of the Word for Word program, will make a brief introduction to the texts in Spanish.
