Columbia University's ties with modern China date back to the nineteenth century, when it was among the first U.S. universities to admit Chinese students. The establishment of Columbia Global Centers | East Asia in 2009 represents a milestone for Columbia University. The Center has already helped establish extensive partnerships with the Chinese academic community and has also engaged in a wide variety of programs.
