The Science of Creativity

Creativity, which is considered to be a key driver of innovation, is often characterized as an indefinable and innate quality possessed by a few people.

Drawing upon scientific research and her expertise in consumer psychology, Professor Gita Johar, Meyer Feldberg Professor of Business at Columbia Business School, demystified the concepts of creativity and innovation at a presentation organized by the Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai on January 11, 2017, at the residence of Jay Mehta, Columbia University alumnus.  

Professor Johar demonstrated that creativity is a vital aspect of one’s personal and professional life and that it is not confined to a small group but can be cultivated by anybody with supporting cultural systems.

The talk was followed by a panel discussion with Aparna Piramal-Raje, writer and author of several publications on design and innovation trends in business.  The panel, which was moderated by Dr. Ravina Aggarwal, Director of the Columbia Centers | Mumbai, touched upon innovation principles and practices across different sectors, including government and education. 

The audience members comprised of young business professionals, academics, and practitioners interested in interdisciplinary design thinking.
