Director, Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai

Ravina Aggarwal is the Director of the Columbia Global Center | Mumbai, located in Mumbai, India. Prior to joining Columbia, she was a Program Officer at the Ford Foundation’s New Delhi office from 2007-2015, where she was responsible for strategic planning and grant-making for programs on development, social justice and public policy, with a focus on the fields of education, media and technology, and arts and culture.  

Dr. Aggarwal’s work in the philanthropy sector followed a long career as a sociocultural anthropologist.  After receiving her doctoral degree from Indiana University in 1994, she joined the Department of Anthropology at Smith College, where she became a tenured faculty member and also served in the Women’s Studies Program.   Her research was based on extensive fieldwork in the Himalayan region of Ladakh in South Asia and her areas of study and teaching included political anthropology, peace-building, cultural studies, gender, and development. 

Dr. Aggarwal is the author of several publications including Beyond Lines of Control: Performing the Border in Ladakh, India (Duke University Press, 2004).  She is co-founder of the journal Meridians: Feminism, Race, Transnationalism and a founding trustee of Ladakh Arts and Media Organization, a non-profit society.

Senior Program Officer

Madhavi Rajadhyaksha is Senior Program Officer at Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai and is responsible for designing ideas and proposals that lead to concrete public programs around global and national issues related to urbanization.

A development professional and journalist with over a decade of experience, Madhavi has spent three years in Bengaluru working with diverse public policy organizations on actionable research towards strengthening local governance in India, in both urban and rural settings.

She was previously an Assistant Editor with The Times of India, Mumbai where she wrote articles and analysed a wide spectrum of development issues. She was a Fellow with the Women's Edition (Population Reference Bureau, USAID) from 2012-2014 for senior-level journalists to examine and write on crucial issues related to women, development and health. 

She holds a Masters in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Print Journalism from the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.

Program Officer, Education Outreach

Dhwani Bafna works on the programs related to Education Outreach and Innovation at Columbia Global Center│ Mumbai. She graduated from Wilson College, University of Mumbai, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media with a specialization in Journalism. During the course, she produced two documentaries related to the violation of human rights in the jewelry and bidi industries of Maharashtra, India.  She has worked with CRY – Child Rights and You and an education technology organization called Nayi Disha Studios. Dhwani spent a year studying Development and International Affairs at SIPA, Columbia University. During her time at Columbia University, she interned with UNICEF’s Innovation unit, consulted a community organization in South Bronx and worked on SIPA’s first TEDx conference. Dhwani’s areas of interest are ICT4D and Social Policy.

Operations Manager

Kaushik's main area of focus at the Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai is to manage administration and operations. As Operations Manager, he is responsible for day-to-day office operations, including office Procucement, Vendor Management, Cost Control and Budgeting.

Prior to joining the Mumbai Center, Kaushik was the Assistant Manager, Finance & Administration, at Xebec - Project Management Consultants. He has also worked with Ness Technologies. He brings with him seven years of experience and knowledge in the fields of Finance, Administration & Operations.


Finance Officer

Manoj's main area of focus at Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai is to assist in office operations and human resources, including office management, audit & taxation matters, cost control and MIS reporting.

He holds a Masters in Commerce (Accounts & Finance) from the Maharashtra State Board. At present, he is pursuing a course on Chartered Accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Simultaneously he is also pursuing a Final Company Secretaries course from The Institute of Companies Secretaries of India. He has an experience of more than 9 years in the field of Audit, Accounting and Finance.

He has worked with Various CA Firms based in Mumbai to finalising the accounts, preparation of Schedule VI in revised format as per the Companies Act 2013, Fixed Asset Register, Depreciation, Investment verification, reconciliations, Filing of Income Tax Return, preparation of computation of total income and tax payable of Companies, Trust, Partnership, and Individuals. Calculation of Advance Tax, Minimum Alternate Tax, TDS, Service Tax, Profession Tax. Preparation of MIS Reports (Cash Flow Statement, Monthly Cost Sheet, Monthly Profit & Loss A/c. and Balance sheet), Appearing before Income Tax Authorities (ITO) for Assessment proceedings of All types of assessee. 

Executive Assistant

Shama joined Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai in November 2015 as Executive Assistant to the Director of the Center. She also provides support in execution of HR and Administrative functions.

Prior to joining the Mumbai Center,  Shama has worked for over 20 years in office administration including accounts, procurements, logistics as well as HR & IT in Indian and international organisations, both in the corporate and social sectors. She has eight years of experience working with international development organizations like Oxfam India and Railway Children, UK.
