On March 22, Jacques Chevrier, current Professor Emeritus at the Sorbonne, gave a lecture on the subject of négritude, discussing the emergence of African literature and its reception in France. With experience as a UNESCO consultant with the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Bamako, Mali and work in French-speaking African countries in Southern Africa, the United States, Mexico, India, Japan, and Central and Eastern Europe, Professor Chevrier presented an informative and comprehensive discourse, serving as the foundation for an engaged and in-depth discussion which followed.
