Dr. Donald Apat is a HIV and AIDS Technical Advisor at the Columbia Global Centers in Nairobi since 2017. His role involves strengthening primary health systems through advocacy in the deployment of Community Health Workers as a crucial cadre to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS. In partnership with the Ministry of Health, he is currently leading the planning of an implementation research on the use of Community Health Workers in the provision of HIV/AIDS testing services at household level in Kenya; a viable sustainable solution to addressing the human resource for health obstacles in achieving the 90-90-90 targets.
Previously, Dr. Apat has worked as the Health Coordinator at the Millennium Villages Project in Sauri, Kenya from 2012.
Dr. Apat is a medical doctor and surgeon, and also a public health practitioner. He holds an M.B.Ch.B from The University of Nairobi and is currently pursuing an MPH at the Institute of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease, in Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. As a general practitioner, he has practiced medicine for over 8 years in both public and private medical sectors in Kenya.
