The Boundaries of Translation theme encompasses translation both between and within language and culture. It examines the limits of a language, and the translation of cultural concepts across those limits. Boundaries of Translation also explores disappearing languages, and the power dynamics between “major” and “minor” languages, whether they are strictly oral, or have a written component. Workshops and conferences deal with questions of translation and genre, between different forms of speech, and performance.
