Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, in partnership with DongYi Art Gallery, cordially invites you to the art exhibition consisting of 266 works by Wenxin Zhang, who was among new China’s first generation of Soviet-trained artists.

This exhibition is co-curated by Abigale Wang, a senior student at Columbia College. Abigale will also serve as the moderator for the public lecture where Mr. Zhang will share his painting techniques, experiences abroad and his views on contemporary American, Russian and Chinese art.

 

Artist
Wenxin Zhang

Wenxin Zhang (1928, Tianjin) graduated in 1948 with an arts degree from North China University. In 1949-1951, he studied physics in Peking University. Upon graduation, he briefly attended Konstantin Maksimov's classes at the Central Art Academy. Zhang worked in the Beijing Municipal Fine Arts Company and later became a professional painter in the Beijing Painting Academy.

Zhang is known for his oil paintings (some of which were included in the collections of the China Art Gallery and the Museum of the Chinese Revolution) and sculptures.

 

Moderator
Abigale Wang

Abigale Wang, senior at Columbia University, studying Economics-Mathematics and Art History double majors. She is an incoming investment banking analyst at Bank of Nova Scotia New York office. Born to a family of art, Abigale is extremely passionate about exploring the multifaceted potential of visual art in relation to culture, history, finance, and high-tech. 

In 2018, Abigale initiated a public art exhibition and lecture at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing. More than 110K people joined the livestream.
