Special Guest

Shiye Fu GSAS '16

Fu got her master's degree in Anthropology from Columbia University. During her stay at Columbia, she delved into the acoustic insects culture in China, focusing on both the material and the textual representations of sounds. She also looked into people living in underground spaces in Beijing and how this group manages to negotiate with narrow spaces.

Fu is currently a journalist at Jiemian News, focusing on cultural issues as well as literature. Through her writings and articles, she tries hard to unveil those significant social and cultural aspects which can be easily overlooked by the public. In the meantime, she is constantly interested in those negligible figures and their everyday lives, attempting to capture and restore all that have been neglected, filtered and abandoned by orthodox and grand history.
