On August 16, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing invites you to a reception for Columbia University’s Summer Language Program in Beijing. Professor Lening Liu, Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Director of the Chinese Language Program, and Evan Streams who currently studies at Columbia University as an undergraduate student, will be invited to deliver speeches.
The event opens to CIB students only. Food and beverage will be provided.
Professor Lening Liu is the Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures and Confucius Institute Director of Chinese Language Pedagogy. He also directs the Chinese Language Program and serves as the co-director of the Certificate Program of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.
Evan Streams has been visiting or living in China since 2014. In that time he was manager of the National High Schools Debate League of China, Director of the China Youth Business League, and also helped create the Columbia Young Scholars Program and a speech competition for Chinese middle school students. He is also the author of a bilingual debate textbook used in both the US and China. He now coaches debate at The Dalton School and studies at Columbia University. His interests include philosophy and comics.
The event will be conducted in English. Registration will begin 30 minutes before the program.
