Hélio Menezes is an anthropologist and works as a researcher, critic, and curator. He received degrees in International Relations and Social Sciences at the University of São Paulo, where he became a master and doctoral student in Social Anthropology. He has been developing research on art and politics, ways of sociability and territorialization of black cultural practices in urban contexts, places of the black body in art and anthropological image theory. He was international coordinator of the World Social Forum of Belém (Brazil, 2009), Dakar (Senegal, 2011) and Tunis (Tunisia, 2013), guest curator of the Afro-Atlantic Histories exhibition, held at MASP and Instituto Tomie Othake (2018), and he is currently curator of contemporary art at Centro Cultural São Paulo.
