With the rise of distance learning solutions during the COVID-19 pandemic, this webinar will examine how education has changed as schools and institutions of higher education around the world had to shut down affecting 1.8 billion students across 186 countries. With the sudden shift away from the classroom and lecture halls, teaching is taking place on digital platforms. The discussion will examine the impact of COVID-19 on higher education and the role of the edtech industry in addressing barriers to learning.


 

Speakers

Mounira

Mounira Jamjoom is co-founder and CEO of Emkan Education and is leading the development of Aanaab.com, an online professional development platform for teachers. She worked as a Senior Research Specialist with the Ideation Center, Booz & Company’s think tank in the Middle East. Mounira has served as Assistant Governor for National Qualifications and Advisor in the Public Education Evaluation Commission in Saudi Arabia and she lectures and teaches on a part time basis. She has published two books and holds a Ph.D. in Education from Oxford University, a Master’s Degree from Columbia University, and a BA in Special Education from Dar Al Hekma University.

 

Safwan

Safwan M. Masri is Executive Vice President for Global Centers and Global Development at Columbia University and Director of Columbia Global Centers | Amman. He is also a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs. Safwan joined Columbia University’s faculty in 1988 and served as Vice Dean of Columbia Business School from 1993 to 2006. He is the author of Tunisia: An Arab Anomaly (Columbia University Press, 2017). Safwan is a trustee of International College in Beirut and the Welfare Association (Taawon) in Ramallah, and is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations and an honorary fellow of the Foreign Policy Association.

 

Fadi

Fadi Ghandour is the Executive Chairman of Wamda Group and the Founder of Aramex. He spent the first 30 years of his work life as CEO of Aramex, building the company and making it the leading emerging market logistics company, employing over 15,000 people working in over 250 offices in 90 countries. Fadi is a serial entrepreneur and has been involved with founding, investing, and launching tens of companies and non-profits, ranging from digital tech, hospitality, fitness & wellness to security. He founded and chairs Ruwwad for Development, a private‐sector led community empowerment platform that helps marginalized communities through activism, civic engagement, education, and financial inclusion.
