This two-day virtual, interactive workshop for MENA journalists explores what climate reporting in the Global South can look like. The topics will highlight issues with data access and the workaround, as well as the ways to increase source diversity and include underreported population sections. We will discuss location-specific reporting challenges and examine what the response to those could be. The COP27 - UN Climate Change Conference 2022 basics will also be covered.

Session I - Reporting on Climate in the Global South: Basics
Tuesday, September 27, at 11am - 1pm (Amman)

We will consider the available research on climate, sources, and resources. We will cover who gets covered and who is often left out of the climate stories - along with how to navigate that. The workshop will also address COP27 and the potential coverage opportunities.

Session II - Reporting Challenges and Solutions
Tuesday, October 4, at 11am - 1pm (Amman)

We will focus on practical reporting challenges, and we will take any questions you might have about region-specific environmental journalism challenges. The session is interactive and workshop participants will be encouraged to join the discussions.

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Columbia Journalism School and The Fuller Project. The Fuller Project is the global newsroom dedicated to groundbreaking reporting that catalyzes positive change for women.
