First Chilean Conference on Law and Society

A two-day conference focusing on the study of Law and Society in Latin America, featuring scholars from the region. History Professor Pablo Piccato from Columbia University will deliver a keynote speach on “Crime, Truth, and Justice in 20th-century Mexico”.

Topics to be discussed include innovative and inter-cultural methodologies for the study of legal phenomena; power dynamics within the State and public agencies’ administration; new challenges in environmental law and natural disasters; conflict and exclusion in Latin American policy-making; new persectives on transitional justice; history and sociology of the legal profession; the life within Chilean prisons; and the history and future of criminal justice systems.


This event is organized by Chile’s Law and Society Studies Group (Grupo de Estudios Derecho y Sociedad Chile) and sponsored by Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Universidad Diego Portales, and Columbia Global Centers I Santiago.
