On May 15, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing invites you to the International Scholar Panel Discussion hosted by the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO), in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Columbia Global Centers. Two international scholars at Columbia will share their work with the academic community.

 

Speakers

Juan LIU

Topic: Shifting Images: Beijing Women in the films of Chinese women filmmakers since 2000  

Film Director, Screenwriter, and Cinematographer, will present her research on the life and relationships of women in Beijing as portrayed in films since 2000 by women filmmakers.

 

Carolina Parreiras

Topic: Sexual violence against teenage girls in Brazilian favelas: the meanings of violence, terror, suffering and the limits of the State

Post-doctoral Researcher in Anthropology, will discuss her current research that explores violence in Rio de Janeiro favelas and deals with gender and sexuality issues, intimacy, death, terror, suffering and the limits of the state.
