On January 16, Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul will host a screening of Misafir (The Guest), The film will be followed by a discussion with director Andaç Haznedaroğlu, moderated by Professor Daniel Naujoks from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Misafir is the winner of the Antalya Film Festival “Audience Award,” International Bosphorus Film Festival “Best Feature Film" and “Best Editing,” Silk Road International Film Festival “Best Feature Film” and “Best Actress,” and the Malmö Arab Film Festival “Best Feature Film” and “Best Actress.”
Eight-year old girl Lena, who has lost her family members in a war, wends her way with her little sister and their neighbor Meryem and other immigrants towards Europe. Lena really wants to return to her home, but they become the heroes of her own stories as they struggle with the problems that constantly arise in Istanbul, where she hardly arrived.
About the Director
Andaç Haznedaroğluwas born in Ankara, Turkey. She graduated from the Acting Program of the Performing Arts and Theatre Department at Anadolu University State Conservatory. Later on, she attended the GITIS Acting Stage Management Workshop in Moscow. Her master degree is in Dramaturgy at Anadolu University. During her television and cinema career over 20 years she has directed many TV series in Turkey. Haznedaroglu is the author of several hit TV dramas like "June Night," "From Lips to Heart," and "Samanyolu." She made her feature film debut with the romantic-comedy "Everything For Love" (2016). In 2004, Andac Haznedaroglu founded her own production company "Andac Film Productions." She is also a lecturer on "Directing For Talent" at Istanbul Bilgi University and Yeditepe University.
