On April 28, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing and China Education Improving Institute will host the third symposium on the One Hundred Years of John Dewey's Education in China. Hope Jensen Leichter, Elbenwood Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University will deliver remarks.

John Dewey was an American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer who taught at Columbia as a professor for 25 years. His thoughts had a great influence on later generations and he himself also had rich experiences in China. In 1919, Dr. Dewey successively lectured in Beijing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to spread the idea of democracy and science in China. His students, Hu Shih and Tao Xingzhi, served as his interpreters.
