Pitching Workshop for Filmmakers with Prof. Ira Deutchman

Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul is pleased to welcome Prof. Ira Deutchman, Chair of the Film Program of the Columbia University School of the Arts to Istanbul.

Prof. Deutchman, who has experience working on over 150 films, including some of the most successful independent films of all time, will be engaged in dialogue with colleagues and counterparts from the film sector in Turkey: he will give a lecture to university students, hold a public discussion with leading voices from the film industry, and lead a workshop to coach filmmakers in the art of pitching.  The program is being organized in collaboration with Koç University.

The Pitching Workshop

We are currently inviting 10-15 filmmakers to participate in a workshop on pitching with Prof. Deutchman, to be held on Friday, March 21.

In the workshop, Prof. Deutchman will discuss the purpose of the pitch, how to pitch effectively, including viability of the project and how to ensure it is well received. Participants will then pitch their pre-selected feature film project to the class, as if they were potential financiers, co-producers or other potential participants.

The workshop will be held from 09:30 – 18:30 on Friday, March 21 at the Koç University Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations on Istiklal Caddesi in Beyoğlu.

As the workshop will be held in English, participants should have a good command of the language.

We are also welcoming observers, about 5 to 10 people, who would like to sit in on the workshop.

Directors, writers, and producers can apply to the workshop with a feature film project that s/he has written or is attached to as a director or producer.  To apply, please send the following materials to [email protected] by Monday, March 3, 2014:

  1. A logline (1-3 sentences)
  2. A short synopsis (1 page)
  3. A short biography (1 paragraph)

All materials should be submitted in English; incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by March 10, 2014.
