Shaping the Future of Construction: A discussion with Ibrahim Odeh and Roger Bayliss

Professor Odeh and Mr. Bayliss engaged industry experts and academics in dialogue about current trends shaping the future of the construction industry, as well as proven industry best practices.

A variety of themes were addressed, including the nature and characteristics of the construction industry, the internal challenges of the sector, mega trends that redefine global construction, and proposals and examples of the best practices to transform the industry.

Ibrahim Odeh is Founding Director of Global Leaders in Construction Management at the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University. He is an advisory committee member at the World Economic Forum on the Future of Construction project and an advisory board member at the Financial Times. Odeh introduced a project in 2016 that is focused on providing Massive Open Online Courses to educate global learners about Construction Management.

Odeh received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Construction Management from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Roger Bayliss is the Senior Vice President at Skanska AB. He joined Skanska in 2007 as Project Director for the £1 billion Private Finance Initiative (PFI) redevelopment of two central London hospitals, St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London. Bayliss then became a member of Skanska UK’s executive management team in 2008. In 2016, after 5 years as Chief Financial Officer, he was appointed to a group role responsible for operational efficiency across Skanska's construction business stream.

Bayliss graduated from Cambridge University and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
