Join us at the American Center for a presentation and discussion about social justice and the cinema. We will look at various ways filmmakers have sought to use cinema to question policies, expose issues and effect change. The talk will feature clips and short films from the silent era until recent times.
Richard Peña was Director of the New York Film Festival for nearly 25 years and is currently a Professor of Film Studies at Columbia University, where he specializes in film theory and international cinema. In 2015-2016, Peña was a Visiting Professor in Film Studies at Harvard University. He frequently lectures on film internationally.
Peña studied at Harvard University and earned a Master's degree in film from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
