In this talk, Ghada Karmi reviewed the history and importance of the Palestinian right of return and why no refugee has ever given up on it. She linked this with her latest book, Return: A Palestinian Memoir, and point to some future directions for how a solution to the conflict with Israel might include the right of return.
Ghada Karmi is a research fellow at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter in England.
Previously, she held a number of research appointments on Middle Eastern politics and culture at the School of Oriental and African Studies, Durham University and the University of Leeds.From 1991 to 2001, she was an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of International Affairs. In 2009, she became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Her previous books include teh best selling memoir, In Search of Fatima (2002) andMarried to Another Man: Israel's Dilemma in Palestine (2007).
