Rapid urbanization has led to an increasing stress on water resources across India, but cities like Mumbai have the potential to reverse this trend by dealing effectively with its wastewater, which is going to be the most perennial resource for water. As part of its ongoing Groundwater Series, Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai invites you to a Public Lecture by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), on the potential for grey-water recycling, decentralized technology solutions, and learning from wastewater treatments implemented at the community and institutional level.

Dr. Rakesh Kumar is the Director at the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI). His research areas include environmental science and engineering, especially air pollution control and management, emission inventory and modeling, environmental impact assessment, environmental audit, climate change and health. Dr. Kumar is renowned for developing technologies for reuse and recycle of domestic and industrial wastewater. He has obtained an M.Tech in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT-Bombay and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from RTM Nagpur University.
