Watching the Classics

June 15, 2021 - June 29, 2021
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul and Istanbul Film Academy is organizing an online film series “Watching the Classics” that has helped change the course of film history with Richard Peña, Professor of Film Studies at Columbia University and Director Emeritus of the New York Film Festival.

The series illustrates discussions on three undisputed classics of world cinema; namely “Citizen Kane, 1941, USA, The Rules of the Game, 1939, France, and Late Spring, 1949, Japan.” Each week, Prof. Peña places a given film within its aesthetic, economic, technological, and socio-political context, detailing each director’s formal techniques while teasing out the implications of these aesthetic and technological decisions.

*This event will be in English. Turkish simultaneous translation will be provided.
