Why Exporting Matters

September 3, 2019
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Columbia Global Centers| Tunis

Many governments, including Tunisia's, devote significant resources to encouraging firms to export. Is this money well spent? What are the effects of exporting on firms and the local economy?

Professor Verhoogen will give a nontechnical review of research on the importance of exporting, as well as an overview of his study in partnership with the World Bank on the impact of an innovative rebate scheme in helping Tunisian exporting firms access new markets and develop better products.

Dr. Verhoogen is a leading economist as well as the Co-Director of Center for Development Economics and Policy. He holds a PGIF grant to conduct research in the Columbia Global Centers¦Tunis that will evaluate an export promotion scheme in Tunisia (2019-21). Please use this Link to further know his profile and publications.

This event is organised by the Columbia Global Centers | Tunis in partnership with Columbia Alumni Association
