As part of its Period of Life: Improving Menstrual Health and Knowledge in India project, Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai is organizing a workshop led by Dr. Lauren Houghton, Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, to discuss the status of educational and community-based work on menstrual health. School health programs and community-based initiatives primarily focus on the practical aspects of menstrual hygiene, paying limited attention to menstruation science.  Adolescents are often unaware of the role of hormones in regulating the cyclic nature of menstruation across the lifecourse. The workshop will explore these gaps and engage with schools and grassroot organizations working with adolescents to understand the current approach and design of menstrual health education programs.  Insights from the workshop will be used in developing creative pedagogical and educational resources on hormones as part of the science education curriculum for both school-going and out-of-school adolescents.
