Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai is organizing a workshop led by Dr. Lauren Houghton, Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, to discuss the incorporation of menstrual care and awareness to monitor adolescent health and detect menstrual abnormalities. The menstrual cycle, driven by hormones, often varies throughout adolescence.  This might lead to menstrual disorders with long-term health consequences.  Routinely examining the menstrual cycle in clinical practice could help identify abnormal menstrual patterns in adolescence and improve the detection of potential health concerns for adulthood.  The workshop, led by Dr. Houghton, will explore the feasibility of including the menstrual cycle as a vital sign in pediatrics in India.  It will engage with pediatricians and members of pediatric governing bodies to understand the priorities of clinical practice around menstrual health and discuss the challenges in addressing menstrual health needs of adolescents.
