The Rio de Janeiro Alumni Club inaugurated a brownbag seminar series at the Center on August 19th, featuring Professor Werner Baer, an American economist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Jorge Lemann Professor of Economics.
Dr. Baer presented a succinct review of the major milestones Brazilian economics during the process of democratization and examined the role of the government in the economy today before opening up for discussion. A lively debate followed, with over 20 local alumni and students participating, moderated by Thomas J. Trebat, Director of the Rio de Janeiro Center.
