Columbia University and Boğaziçi University’s joint summer program is now underway, offering a group of students from both universities a unique opportunity to learn about the history, urban development and historic monuments of Byzantion/Constantinople/Istanbul. Through coursework and a series of day-long excursions, students will be able to explore Istanbul’s modern topography of empires, cultures and religions. A research and fieldwork component adds practical experience in architectural site documentation, Quicktime VirtualReality photography, archival work and conservation.
The course, which is part of the Columbia Global Centers | Turkey Istanbul Documentation Project, is co-taught by Professor Holger A. Klein, chair of the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University and Professor Koray Durak of the Department of History at Boğaziçi University.
