Columbia University’s Global Center in Istanbul is initiating a series of webinar workshops to highlight the research of emerging scholars (advanced PhD students and recent post-doctoral scholars).
Coordinated by Professor Zeynep Çelik, the sessions will concentrate mostly, but not exclusively, on the late Ottoman-early Turkish Republican period. Each meeting will have a focused topic. There will be three presentations (15 minutes each), followed by comments by a discussant. The resulting papers will be published in a special section of the Journal of Ottoman and Turkish Studies. Starting in mid-January 2021, the series will continue with about two webinars/month.
To this end, we are now inviting proposals that would pertain to the following overarching topics:
- Politics of Archaeology
- Immigration
- Wars and Their Impacts
- Urban Spaces
- Urban Infrastructure
- Regional Infrastructure
- Urban Institutions
- Visual Culture
- Literature and History
- Intellectual History
- Environmental History
- Life at Home
- Labor History
- Medical History
- Ethnicity and Identity Politics
- Law and History
