On Campus: SIPA Professor Speaks about Latin America’s Political Challenges

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile and longtime Ambassador, Juan Gabriel Valdés, met with SIPA students to discuss about political and ideological trends in the Americas. Valdés analyzed the recent trends of unilateralism, nationalism and populism in the region.

After his presentation, the audience asked questions related to US-Latin American relations, the situation in Venezuela and the role that international and local organizations are playing in the region.

Juan Gabriel Valdés currently is George W. Ball Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs, and will be teaching a course at SIPA from January to May 2019. This is event was by SIPA’s Latin American Student Association (LASA) in association with the Columbia Global Centers | Santiago.
