Chile’s Minister of Finance on Campus

On April 23, Chile’s Minister of Finance Felipe Larraín visited Columbia University’s Campus in New York to participate in seminar entitled “Fostering Growth and Sustainable Development in Chile”, organized by the Sanford C. Bernstein & Co. Center for Leadership and Ethics, the Business School’s Student Leadership and Ethics Board, theSchool of International and Public Affairs’ Latin American Student Association (LASA), and  InBest Chile. The event was chaired by Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University and co-author with Larraín of the book “Macroeconomics in the Global Economy” (1993).

Larraín spoke about Chile’s economic outlook focusing on the government’s strategy to regain growth, foster employment and address the fiscal deficit. He also discussed plans to attract foreign direct investment, improve the country’s sovereign ratings, and promote sustainable development.

Larraín visit to Campus was one of the many activities of the “Chile Day” event in New York, which was organized by Inbest, a private non-profit organization comprised of the main stakeholders who have an interest in the Chilean stock market.
