In late September, Andrés Couve, Chile’s Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, visited Campus to speak with the community of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA).
Couve has the distinction of being the first head of this newly created ministry. During the conversation, hosted by SIPA’s Latin American Student Association (LASA) and Columbia’s Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), the minister shared with the SIPA community the challenges he has faced in the process of creating this institution.
He also spoke about his experience in the 2019 Climate Action Summit and reviewed plans for COP25, set to take place in Santiago in December. Additionally, he explained how the government is defining priorities and creating policies for science, technology and innovation (STI) to drive development and improve the quality of life in Chile.
