Fernanda Cabañas (SEAS'17) tapped as executive secretary for Universidad de Chile's Sustainability Committee

The role for Cabañas will be is to ensure that all of the UN Sustainable Development Goals are incorporated throughout the university.

Fernanda Cabañas, EEE’17, Columbia alumna with a Master’s Degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering, has been named the new executive secretary of the Sustainability Committee at Universidad de Chile.

The charge of the Sustainability Committee, which forms part of the Deputy Rector’s Office for Student and Community Affairs (VAEC) at Universidad de Chile, is to ensure that all of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are incorporated throughout the university.

Cabañas has a degree in biotechnology engineering from Universidad de Santiago de Chile. While at Columbia, she was a research associate at the Earth Engineering Center, evaluating and proposing improvements for Chile’s solid waste management model. She also studied the Chilean model for the inclusion of the informal recyclers into the formal economy.
