Frontiers in Organ Transplantation

March 28, 2019

On March 28, Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul, in collaboration with Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine, hosted Megan Sykes, M.D., Michael J. Friedlander Professor of Medicine and Professor of Microbiology & Immunology and Surgical Sciences (in Surgery) and Director, Columbia Center for Translational Immunology, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons for a talk on the frontiers of organ transplantation.

Frontiers in Organ Transplantation

Prof. Sykes discussed the immunological responses associated with organ transplantation and the promise of xenotransplantation. She spoke about how she has developed an approach that has been evaluated in clinical trials of non-myeloablative haploidentical HCT whose safety and efficacy has allowed for trials of HCT for the induction of organ allograft tolerance, allowing intentional achievement of tolerance in humans for the first time.

Prof. Sykes was introduced by the Vice Dean Prof.Dr. Ayşin Kale, Department of Anatomy, and the Q&A was moderated by Prof. Dr. Güher Saruhan-Direskeneli, Department of Physiology, Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine.
