The Jordanian Ministry of Education begins a review of textbooks and curricula

As the Ministry of Education in Jordan continues the implementation of the first phase of a process aimed at developing curricula and textbooks, the views of education experts vary. Professor Safwan M. Masri, Executive Vice President for Global Centers and Global Development at Columbia University, explained that the reform process of curricula seems superficial.

July 15, 2015 - As the Ministry of Education in Jordan continues the implementation of the first phase of a process aimed at developing curricula and textbooks, the views of education experts vary. Professor Safwan M. Masri, Executive Vice President for Global Centers and Global Development at Columbia University, explained that the reform process of curricula seems superficial. Masri stated that approximately half the students across the Middle East and North Africa region are “not meeting basic learning levels.” He explained that curricula and textbooks continue to be overwhelmingly dominated by religion, taught from a narrow and exclusive perspective.
