Launching CGC Summer Virtual Internships for Columbia Students

July 01, 2020

The network of nine Columbia Global Centers launched a Virtual Internship Program with over 150 opportunities in a host of partner organizations around the world to support meaningful internship experiences for Columbia students over the summer who had seen diminished opportunities due to the disruptions caused by Covid-19.  Columbia Global Centers | Mumbai offered 25 internships in partnership with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in India, Sarmaya Arts Foundation, Piramal Museum of Art, YUVA (Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action), Praja Foundation, SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action), Agua Wireless Systems, Swapeco, InnerHour, Extrinsic Labs, and Avaana Capital; and 14 undergraduate and graduate interns were placed from over a hundred applications.

An orientation session will take place on July 1, 2020 to welcome the students.  “I am very excited to start the internship! I applied for this particular internship because as a musician trained in Western classical music, I was excited by the prospect of learning more about Sufi music traditions”, said Joya Kumar, a rising sophomore at Columbia College, who will be researching musical archives in her internship with the Center and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in India.  Jiyoon Moon, enrolled in the Dual BA program between Columbia University and SciencesPo, will also intern at the same organization and work on a honey bee conservation project.  She shared, “As a freshly declared Urban Studies major, hearing the story and details behind the project was exciting and inspiring, and I jumped at the opportunity to get involved.”  All internships will run through the summer and end before the fall semester begins in September.
