July 06, 2019

On July 6, Nansong Huang joined the 2019 Columbia Beijing Summer Arts and Humanities Series and performed a piano recital for more than 120 attendees, many are students, alumni, and parents of the Columbia community. The program was delicately designed by Huang and the Center to showcase the beauty and distinct styles of western classical music in various countries, including in Germany, Austria, France, and Russia.

This is also Huang's third time performing at the Beijing Center after his graduation from Columbia-Juilliard exchange program in 2016. He then received a master degree in music from Yale School of Music and is currently pursuing his PhD in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Northwestern University.

During the two-hour program, Huang played five best known pieces by Beethoven, Ravel, Debussy, Medtner, and Prokofiev, while he also gave a detailed introduction on each musician and piece before he played.

The Beijing Center galvanizes the possibility of new perspectives and builds a fertile staging ground for programs that enhance collaborative engagement between the University and China. Capitalizing on the center’s extensive network of artistic luminaries, the Arts and Humanities Series continues to explore more opportunities of arts and cultural exchange.
