Opening Ceremony for CU Chinese Alumnus Hu Shih's Exhibition Held

On March 11, Columbia Global Centers | Beijing, joined with the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences of Peking University and Peking University Library, hosted an opening ceremony for the exhibition titled “Hu Shih in the Intellectual History of the 20th Century in China” to commemorate Columbia alumnus Hu Shih and his legacy. HAN Xiao, Assistant to the Director of Peking University's Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences and ZOU Xinming, Associate Director of Special Collections Division at Peking University Library, also joined the event.

During the ceremony, Professor OUYANG Zhesheng from Peking University’s Department of History delivered a speech based on his publication on Hu Shih titled “The Academic World of Columbia – Hu Shih and Columbia University.”

Around a hundred people attended the opening ceremony, along with more than 30, 000 people watching live through iFeng live-streaming.

“This year is the centennial of Hu Shih’s graduation from Columbia University and designation as a professor at Peking University,” said Professor SONG Xiaoxia, curator of this exhibition and a professor at China Central Academy of Fine Arts. “We are expecting to take this timing to introspect Hu Shih’s legacy in the twentieth century China’s history of scholarship and thoughts at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing.”

“In the meantime, we wish to set the layout for our future exhibition about Hu Shih and Columbia University as well,” Professor Song added.

From March 13, the Hu Shih's exhibition will be free to public every Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Columbia Global Centers | Beijing.
