Richard Peña at the Department of Anthropology, ISSHT

During his stay, Prof. Peña presented a 3-day course (March 10-12) at the Anthropology Department of the Institut Supérieur des Sciences Humaines de Tunis where he met more than 10 professors and 40 students. From Nanouk the Eskimo directed by Robert Flaherty to Dead Birds by Robert Gardener, the course examined 125 years of the history of anthropological cinema with fruitful debates on the relationship to the other in cinema, ethical issues in filmmaking, the technical specificity of documentary/anthropological film, etc. 
This conference was preceded by a meeting with Prof. Mohsen El Khouni, Director of the Institut Supérieur des Sciences Humaines, along with several professors from the Department of Anthropology and was organized in partnership with the two institutions aforementioned, the Tunisian Association of Social and Cultural Anthropology, and the University of Tunis El-Manar
