On March 17, Leah Meisterlin, Assistant Professor in Urban Planning at Columbia GSAPP, talked about cartographies of distance and difference at the Columbia Global Centers | Beijing.
With historical and contemporary examples, the talk focused on the current research on techniques of digital mapping, in pursuit of pluralism in geospatial representation. The project reveals unrepresented variations between communities and groups, variations that are etched onto cities by structural differences in daily constraints and concomitant spatial practices, particularly between the genders.
Steffen Boddeker, Associate Dean of Admissions and Outreach at Columbia GSAPP, and Weiping WU, Professor of Urban Planning at Columbia GSAPP and Director of the M.S. Urban Planning program, attended the event to give an introduction on the School and the urban planning program.
During the Q&A session and reception, the GSAPP faculty members further engaged with prospective and current students, alumni, and parents and answered questions regarding admissions process and career development.
The event attracted more than 70 people and more than 162,000 people watched the event online.
