Nearly 4 million refugees have fled the war in Syria to date, and most are being hosted by neighboring states, in areas which already face significant economic and social challenges. The refugee crisis has placed considerable pressure on national governments and local authorities who are attempting to manage the impact on local communities. A workshop held at Columbia Global Centers | Middle East convened local officials, civil society and experts to discuss the Jordanian case, focusing on what role local government can play in addressing the impact of Syrian refugees, particularly in northern Jordan.
