Santiago Center Commemorates Pride Month in Chile Webinar

July 02, 2020

Three presenters from different backgrounds participated in the Santiago Center’s latest webinar, “Advances and Pending Issues in the Struggle for LGBT+ Rights” (Avances y Deudas en la Lucha por los Derechos LGBT+), held at the end of June in the context of Pride Month.

The lawyer, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez law professor and human rights expert, Verónica Undurraga (LAW'95), kicked off the conversation, reviewing the legal situation for gay rights in instances such as adoption in homosexual couples. She was followed by Luis Larraín, founder of LGBT advocacy group Fundación Iguales, who spoke about the current situation in Chile, specifically in the context of Covid-19. Finally, the graphic designer Lauro Bande provided a heartfelt testimony of his gender transition.

The conversation was moderated and animated by Ximena Vial (GSAS’16), history and cultural heritage expert.
